Professional Semester II
I completed my PSII semester from Jan-Apr of 2014. During this time, and over the course of the summer, I served as Director of Member Services of the Education Undergraduate Society. I also tutored a grade 8 student in reading comprehension and math. This gave me an opportunity to become familiar with (and realized I love) the Knowledge & Employability Program of Studies, put into action strategies for reading comprehension, and connect with the student's interests and learning preferences.
In my coursework, I gained knowledge and skills in language arts curriculum and instruction, differentiating instruction and assessment to meet the needs of all learners based on Universal Design for Learning, unit instruction and assessment planning, and the social context of schooling.

I completed my practicum at a junior high school in Calgary and taught the following:
- two grade 9 classes (28 students each) and a grade 8 class (31 students); several students were on IPPs for various reasons, including one student with Down's Syndrome and a student who was selectively mute, and two in the K&E program
- grade 9 language arts (exploring mental health through a variety of texts; improving informative and persuasive communication; essay-writing focusing on generating and organizing ideas)
- grade 8 language arts (exploring of relationships in the virtual world of online gaming and social media; improving informative and persuasive communication; paragraph and descriptive writing, which I modified a lot)
- grade 9 social studies (examining social programs and taxation in Canada and examining underlying values and worldviews)
