English Language Arts
Although I initially registered at the University of Calgary to be an archaeology major, I found myself quickly in love (again) with language and culture, and completed a Bachelor of Arts Honours in English in 2008. I focused on literary theory and completed my honours thesis on the ethics of language use, particularly as it applied to the notion of 'political correctness.'
After completing my degree, I applied my writing and critical thinking skills as a technical writer for pipeline companies, but continued to research and write about issues of interest in my spare time. As a result, I have far too many half-finished creative and critical writing projects, but I do hope to follow through with them. Teaching English Language Arts has reacquainted me with the usefulness of deadlines and peer input, and has challenged me to practice what I preach. I am especially interested in collaborative writing, comics (as defined by Scott McCloud), e-literature, and hypermedia. |
