Personal Profile
My Journey into Teaching
I completed a B.A. Honours in English and a minor in Spanish back in 2008, got married to a wonderful man in 2009, and then worked in the pipeline industry as a technical writer and occupational health and safety analyst until 2013, when I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. In December of 2014, I graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a B.Ed. in English Language Arts and a specialization in Technology. Two quotes have influenced me throughout this journey:
Interests
I enjoy creating through writing, visual arts, theatre, dance, and music, especially when I can do it with others. I love discovering and sharing new things, so I spend much of my spare time reading and communicating with friends, family, and the online community. Disparity in Alberta and the global community concerns me, so I regularly engage in initiatives to empower folks struggling in Calgary (my hometown) and overseas. Cycling, yoga, hiking, and, most importantly, my cup of coffee in the morning keep me refreshed and energized.

In December of 2014, I graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a B.Ed. in English Language Arts and a specialization in Technology. Two quotes have influenced me throughout this journey:
- “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive” (Howard Thurman). Several years ago, my mother felt impressed to share this quote with me, and it radically changed my outlook on life. I’ve chosen to do many things based on what I feel “the world needs.” Out of a strong work ethic and desire to help others, I’ve often met those needs and found some personal fulfillment in the process. In late April of 2012, however, it finally dawned on me that everything that most excites me, fascinates me, and drives me crazy—in short, what makes me come alive—is wrapped up in public education, and specifically in being a teacher. So, I decided to give myself permission to be selfish and “go do it.”
- "Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest” (Ecclesiastes 11:4). I have zero farming experience, but I love this saying. It talks about doing something good right now, rather than plotting perfection but never actually doing something because you think it could be better or because you're afraid it won't be good enough. I'm learning to live in the now, and to be at peace with doing the best I can with the values, knowledge, skills, and resources I have at the time. I learn from and improve upon what didn't work. I celebrate and build upon what did.
