Primary ResourcesEnglish Language Arts Program of Studies
The ELA Program of Studies is the basis from which to plan all assessment and instruction. This page also contains links to the Illustrative Examples for K-9. Alberta Education also supplies authorized resources, including the very helpful Senior High School English Language Arts Guide to Implementation. Information & Communication Technology Program of Studies English Language Arts teachers are expected to integrate the ICT outcomes into their assessment and instruction, which makes perfect sense, since managing information and enhancing communication relate to two of the General Learning Outcomes of the ELA Program of Studies. Also refer to the ICT Illustrative Examples. Knowledge & Employability Studio - Learn Alberta Click on level 02 (Curriculum Foundations), then English Language Arts. Here is the Table of Contents. The studio has excellent resources for teaching all six language arts strands, differentiating instruction, and infusing FNMI perspectives. Read to Live - Learn Alberta This multimedia resource supports literacy at the junior and senior high school levels. The resource provides information, strategies and audio/visual clips that encourage teachers and students to think about reading in a new way, focusing on the real-world contexts of home, community and workplace. |

To help teachers meet curricular demands of Canadian provincial curriculum and to assist pre-service teachers to meet teacher education professional standards, this website is organized to dovetail with current teaching practices and bridges to new materials. Web English Teacher Web English Teacher contains excellent K-12 English Language Arts teaching resources: lesson plans, videos, e-texts, technology integration, criticism, and classroom activities. Purdue OWL (Online Writing Lab) This is an excellent resource for teaching ELA to high school students, but can also be adapted for junior high.
