- Provide authoritative, age/grade-appropriate, engaging, curricular-aligned content (many tag resources based on SLOs)
- Include embedded supports for diverse learners like audio (with adjustments for pace, pitch, and even accent), visual reading (highlighting or text colour changes), text translation, citation tools, annotation tools, vetted websites, and copyright-friendly pictures and videos
- Provide anytime, anywhere access (school computers have automatic login, and the public library has login information for students)
- Have to ready-to-use or customizable lesson plans, teaching materials and direct curricular correlations
- Provide support for ESL and foreign language learners
- Have journal subscriptions to promote professional development (RSS feeds available so that users can be notified of new publications)
- Have vetted websites and content with consistent, explicit update schedules
- Provide the ability to create permalinks that can be posted on a website or in an email blast
- Provide student guides for online research
